Project Management

Description Template Checklist Example Tailoring

Engineering Plan [EP_proj.doc]

The Engineering Plan contains all organizational definitions required for the project, ranging from the project team setup to the delivery procedure of the product to the customer.

Schedule [SDL_proj.mpp]

The Schedule describes the timeline of the project (milestones, work package start and end dates) as well as the assignment of work packages to the individual team members.

Feature Plan [FP_proj.xls]

The Feature Plan describes on a high level the features which will be build into the system. Furthermore it describes which features will be implemented in which release. The document can be used to support the communication process with the customer as well as to provide an overview of the development steps to the project team.

Estimation Sheet and Budget Plan [BP_proj.xls]

The Estimation Sheet and Budget Plan is used to support the planning process for the effort and cost estimation of the individual work packages.

Issue Log [IL_proj.xls]

The Issue Log is used to support the tracking of any issue during the project.

Risk Sheet [RS_proj.xls]

The Risk Sheet contains a list of all risks including their status and possible counter measures for the project.

Subcontract Agreement [SCA_proj_subcontractor.doc]

This template provides a default contract for the engagement of a Subcontractor.

Project Status Report [PSR_proj_nr.doc]

The Project Status Report is used to report the project status (functionality realized, schedule and cost compliance, problems and risks,..) to the senior management and the project team.

Project Closure Report / Lessons Learned [PCR_proj.doc]

The Project Closure Reports provides a retrospect of the project, focusing on lessons learned which may help to improve future projects.

Meeting Minutes [MIN_proj_yymmdd.doc]

The Templates can be used to record the minutes of a project or customer meeting.

System Requirements Specification [SRS_proj.doc]

The System Requirements Specification contains all functional and non functional requirements for the project.

Traceability Matrix [TRC_proj.xls]

The Traceability Matrix documents the traceability information between requirement, design and test documents.

Note: this template may also be used on component level.

Requirements Consolidation List [RCL_proj.doc]

The Requirements Consolidation List documents the consolidation status of all stakeholder requirement documents. It is especially helpful in case no requirements management tool is used.

Open Item List [OIL_proj.doc]

The Open Item List contains all issues which need to be clarified between the project stakeholders, e.g. between the project team and the customer.

The Architecture describes the structure of the system to be developed, including the component structure, interfaces between the components and important design patterns.

Component Engineering

Component Requirement Specification [CRS_component.doc]

The Component Requirement Specification describes all requirements which will be implemented in the component. The requirements are based on the System Requirement Specification as well as on the architecture.

Component Design [CD_component.doc]

The Component Design describes the structure of the component to be developed, including the component interface, the internal structure and integration hints.

Test Engineering

Component Test Specification [CTS_component.doc]

The Component Test Specification contains all test cases which will be checked during the component test execution as well as the expected results for each test case. Furthermore it comprises the traceability between the test case and the test basis, unless otherwise agreed.

The Component Test Report contains the result of the component test execution.

Integration Test Specification [ITS_proj.doc]

The System Integration Test Specification contains all test cases which will be checked during the integration execution test as well as the expected results for each test case. Furthermore it comprises the traceability between the test case and the test basis, unless otherwise agreed.

Integration Test Report [ITR_proj.doc]

The Integration Test Report contains the result of the integration test execution.

As an alternative to the provided test specification documents and test report documents above, a simplified version based on Excel may be used.

The Test Status List contains a list of all tests planned for the project as well as their status.

Change List [CL_proj.xls]

A simple change control list in case no Change Management tool is used.

Release Note [RN_proj_version.doc]

The Release Note describes the content of the released system. May be used in case no automated release note is generated by the configuration management system.

Quality Assurance

Quality Plan [QP_proj.xls]

The Quality Plan describes the quality tasks which will be performed by the Quality Engineer and the team during the project lifetime. Furthermore it identifies critical components which need special attention.

Quality Report [QR_proj_no.doc]

The Quality Report is written in regular intervals during the project lifetime and describes the quality status of the project. It identifies all problems and contains a list of agreed tasks to improve these.

The Review List is used for planning and documenting the status of all reviews during the project's lifetime.

Review Minutes are used to document the findings of a review meeting.

Quality Management

Improvement Plan [IP_proj.xls]

The Improvement Plan describes the strategy for improving the organization's processes from a management perspective, comparable to a quote. Once the improvement project is initiated, it should be run like a regular project.

The training evaluation is used to receive the feedback from the training participants for a specific training.
